Elizabeth Smart recounts abduction, terror before jurors.As she was led in darkness into the foothills behind her home, just after being abducted from her bed at knife-point, Elizabeth Smart told her kidnapper that if he was going to rape and kill her, to do it near the trail so her remains would be found.Smart recounted her abduction and its aftermath in graphic detail before a captivated jury Monday in the federal kidnapping trial of Brian David Mitchell. Her testimony is set to continue Tuesday.Mitchell told Smart he wanted her from the moment he first saw her, she testified, and said he planned for months how he would snatch her so she could join him and his wife in a "celestial" plural marriage."He said they had been preparing for me since he saw me," she said.
It was the fall of 2001, and he was panhandling outside a mall in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Smart said she was with her mother and five brothers and sisters, shopping for school clothes.
