Explosion levels house in Chicago

Fire officials in Chicago, Illinois, are investigating an explosion that flattened a home on the city's far South Side and sent three people to local hospitals.Chicago Fire Department Chief Joe Roccasalva said the blast just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday leveled the house at 12247 South Ada Street, also damaging neighboring homes and a number of vehicles. There was no fire."There's a lot of debris we're trying to clear," according to Roccasalva, who also said there was a "strong odor of gas" at the scene. Gas service was shut off to the area.The cause of the explosion had not be determined Sunday night.A 30-year-old man from the residence was hospitalized in serious-to-critical condition, Roccasalva said. Doctors were treating him for cuts and burns. Two teens from a neighboring home were taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure, Roccaslava said.
