Florida schools locked down after report of potential attack
uthorities in Broward County, Florida, expanded a lockdown to include all schools in the county as well as county government offices after a woman said her husband intended to fire gunshots at a school, according to Pembroke Pines police Capt. Dan Rakofsky.Pembroke Pines deputy city attorney Julie Klahr told CNN that police requested the full-scale lockdown as a precautionary measure. The school system's administrative offices were also locked down.The county has 231 traditional schools and centers, 69 charter schools and one virtual school, according to a Broward County school websiteAccording to the Pembroke Pines Police Department, a "possible threat" was received at 8:40 a.m. "in reference to the schools within the city of Pembroke Pines.""Although this possible threat has not been confirmed, as a precaution the Broward County Schools and Pembroke Pines Charter Schools are on lockdown. An e-mail was also sent stating that 'something big was going to happen' around government buildings in Broward County. The Broward Sheriff's Office, Broward Schools and other Broward County agencies have been notified," the police statement said.
