Philippine government made significant investments in PAL
The company’s long history began in 1941 when it was founded by a group of businessmen headed by the Spanish industrialist, Andres Soriano. PAL went on to become the first commercial airline in Asia, by flying its first commercial airplane which was a five-seater Beach Model 18. The aircraft took off from the Nielsen airfield in Makati and was headed to Baguio. In September of the same year, the Philippine government made significant investments in PAL, making it the national airline.
